The Town of Cochrane is working to develop its first long-term action plan to improve mobility, connectivity, and access Town-wide by developing the Town's first Active Transportation Master Plan (informally called the ATMP). Cochrane's natural beauty, small-town hospitality, and diverse shops, services, and other destinations give it the potential to be a great place for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, and get active for all kinds of trips - whether for recreation or getting to and from various destinations in town. Let's work together to make Cochrane Wonderfully Active!

The purpose of the project will be to prepare a long-range strategy that will:

  • Improve Safety & Comfort for people walking, cycling and being active within the Town
  • Enhance Existing Facilities including some of the trails, sidewalks, and on-road connections
  • Design a Continuous and Connected Network of on and off-road facilities that people of all ages and abilities can access to get to and from day-to-day activities
  • Phase and prioritize AT improvements over the next 20 years with policies, programs, initiatives, and activities that achieve the future vision
  • Educate and encourage people who live, work, and play within the Town to get involved and get active

Since January 2023 we have been working with staff, stakeholders, community members and committee members to help shape the recommendations and content of the ATMP. It is almost time to develop the plan and move forward with implementation. Before that, we are looking for final input from the community.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House on November 29th, 2023. We had some great conversations, and received some very useful feedback. For those who were unable to attend, you can download the presentation slides from the event, along with draft recommendations and mapping, to get more information on the project. You can still provide input and feedback on the project by contributing your ideas for what we should prioritize below, or by sending an email to the project team.

Thank you so much for your continued interest and involvement in this important project!!

There is so much to explore and opportunities to be active...
